Founded in 2003 as the UK's first 3G-only network by CK Hutchison Holdings, Three grew into the unlimited-data specialist, launching 'The One Plan' in 2010. In 2025 Vodafone completed its acquisition creating a combined base of approximately 27 million mobile customers. Both brands continue operating separately. Three holds more 5G spectrum than any other UK operator — 140MHz in the 3.4–3.6GHz band — which delivers the fastest 5G download speeds in independent tests (Opensignal Jan 2026: Three led the 5G Download award).

Three SIM Only plans are available on 30-day rolling, 12-month, and 24-month contracts. Since June 2025 the range was restructured into four tiers: Lite (cheapest, no roaming), Advanced, Value (includes Go Roam in 49 EU destinations), and Complete (Go Roam in 160+ worldwide destinations plus Paramount+). All plans include unlimited calls and texts, 5G at no extra cost, and Personal Hotspot. Annual price rise: £1.80–£1.90/month fixed each April (depending on data tier). 30-day rolling plans are exempt.
Three Pay Monthly bundles a new handset (iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel) with an airtime plan. Device plans run 24 or 36 months. Higher tiers include Go Roam. Three+ rewards (loyalty perks) available. Can pay off device early and move to SIM only.
Three PAYG SIMs remain active with add-on packs. Uniquely, Three PAYG includes Go Roam in 71 destinations at no extra cost — one of the best PAYG roaming deals in the UK. Add-on packs valid for 30 days. No credit check required.
Three supports eSIM on compatible devices including iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20+, and Google Pixel 3+. Activate via the Three app or a QR code. Three also supports eSIM Quick Transfer on iPhone. PAYG eSIM available.
Three provides 4G coverage to approximately 99% of the UK population outdoors. 5G coverage reaches approximately 62% of the population across 450+ towns and cities — but Three holds the most 5G spectrum and achieves the fastest 5G speeds in independent testing. Under the VodafoneThree merger, combined network investment of £11 billion targets 99% 5G Standalone coverage by 2030. MOCN network sharing with Vodafone already upgraded 8,000+ mast sites by late 2025.
Three's Go Roam is the most comprehensive roaming package among the four major UK networks. The Value plan tier includes 49 EU destinations; the Complete tier reaches 160+ destinations worldwide (including USA, Canada, Australia, India, UAE, and more). Fair-use data cap of 12GB per month while roaming. PAYG customers get Go Roam in 71 destinations free. On Lite/Advanced plans, daily roaming charges apply (around £2/day Europe, more worldwide). Tethering is permitted in Europe.
