Formed in 2010 from the merger of Orange UK and T-Mobile UK (both demerged from their European parents), EE launched under the 'Everything Everywhere' brand in 2012. EE was first to 4G (October 2012) and first to 5G (May 2019) in the UK. BT Group acquired EE in 2016 for £12.5 billion. Today EE serves approximately 21 million customers. EE has been independently rated the UK's fastest mobile network for over 10 consecutive years and has the widest 5G coverage. EE's 5G+ Standalone network (launched September 2024) now reaches around 44 million people across the UK.

EE SIM Only plans are available on 12- and 24-month contracts. The range runs from No Frills (basic, speed-capped at ~10Mbps, no EU roaming) through Essentials, Essentials Plus (adds free EU roaming), All Rounder (uncapped 5G+ speeds, free EU roaming, one Inclusive Extra like Netflix or Apple Music), and Full Works (uncapped, EU + Roam Further worldwide, Apple One on iPhone). All include unlimited calls and texts. Annual price rise: fixed £2.50/month from March 2026.
EE Pay Monthly follows the same tiered structure with handsets from Apple, Samsung and Google. Device plans 24 or 36 months. Full Works adds premium Inclusive Extras. Business plans with priority support available. EE One bundle saves up to £20/month for customers with EE broadband.
EE PAYG works through monthly packs (bundles of data, calls and texts). Packs scale from small to unlimited. Higher-end PAYG packs include 5G access and Wi-Fi Calling. For flexibility, PAYG avoids any contract commitment.
EE supports eSIM on all compatible devices. Activate via the My EE app or a QR code emailed on sign-up. eSIM works on recent iPhones, Samsung Galaxy S20+, Google Pixel 3+, and many tablets and laptops. EE also supports Apple Watch Cellular and eSIM pairing.
EE has the UK's widest 5G coverage — 87%+ of the population across 500+ towns and cities. EE 5G+ Standalone (SA) launched September 2024 and reaches approximately 44 million people (around 66% of the population). 4G covers 99% of the UK population outdoors. EE consistently leads independent network speed tests: Opensignal (January 2026) rated EE highest for combined 4G/5G download experience at 53.2Mbps. Rural coverage is the best of any UK network thanks to BT's existing infrastructure.
EU roaming is included on Essentials Plus, All Rounder and Full Works plans. Essentials (lower tier) and No Frills do not include EU roaming — a daily charge applies (~£2.47/day). Full Works includes additional Roam Further destinations (USA, Canada, Australia and more). A 25GB per month data cap applies while roaming. EE is not the cheapest option for EU roaming — O2 includes it free on all plans.
On All Rounder and Full Works plans, choose one or more free premium subscriptions: Netflix, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple One, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, TNT Sports, or Google One with Gemini AI.
