Vodafone was one of the UK's first two mobile networks, having made the UK's first mobile phone call on 1 January 1985. Today the combined VodafoneThree group has approximately 27 million mobile customers. The Vodafone brand continues to operate independently alongside Three. In May 2026, Vodafone Group announced a £4.3 billion buyout of CK Hutchison's 49% stake, subject to approval — once complete, Vodafone would own 100% of VodafoneThree.

Vodafone SIM Only plans span multiple tiers including Unlimited Lite (100Mbps speed cap), Unlimited (100Mbps cap), Unlimited Xtra and Unlimited Plus (no speed cap, additional perks). Available on 30-day rolling, 12-month and 24-month contracts. All include unlimited calls and texts. Xtra plans add entertainment perks (choose from Disney+, Amazon Prime, or YouTube Premium). Annual price rise: fixed £2.50/month each April for airtime plans.
Vodafone Pay Monthly bundles handsets with airtime on 24 or 36-month device plans. Higher-tier Xtra/Plus plans include entertainment perks and expanded roaming. Can pay off device plan early and drop to SIM only. Business phone plans include dedicated account management and priority support.
Vodafone PAYG available with big-value bundle add-ons for 30 days. PayPal, PAYG Big Value Bundles include data, calls and texts. Good option for occasional or low-usage customers.
Vodafone supports eSIM on compatible devices including iPhones (XS and later), Samsung Galaxy (S20+), and Google Pixel (3+). Activate via the My Vodafone app or a QR code. eSIM available on SIM Only and PAYG plans. Connected devices (smartwatches, tablets) also supported.
Vodafone provides 4G coverage to approximately 99% of the UK population. 5G is available across major towns and cities with rapid expansion under the VodafoneThree £11 billion investment plan. VodafoneThree's combined network is targeting 50 million people (~71% population) with the fastest 5G within one year of the merger. MOCN network sharing with Three underway. Vodafone won Fastest 5G from Opensignal in some reporting periods of 2024–25.
EU roaming on post-August-2021 Vodafone plans is NOT included free — a daily charge applies (~£2.42–£2.57/day). However, Xtra plans include roaming in the plan at no daily cost. Zone A (Ireland, Isle of Man, Iceland, Norway) is free on all plans. Data Passport (£7/24h) gives unlimited data in 89 destinations. Vodafone offers the only true Global Roam plan (Unlimited Max Xtra with Global Roam) covering 84 countries — the most comprehensive worldwide roaming of any UK network.
